Anthony Peake is an exciting and challenging writer and I love his books. Here is an article he wrote for me about his fascinating theory on Cheating the Ferryman.
Modern quantum physics teaches us that reality at the quantum level is so bizarre and strange that normal causality and logic simply breaks down. Sub atomic particles are brought into being by the observation of a conscious observer, atoms, the basic building blocks of reality, are part of this charade. Put simply, we create reality by observing it – even the reality of objects that existed before mankind had evolved. The vast majority of the world’s leading theoretical physicists believe that the universe splits into identical copies of itself millions of times a second, many others hold with the belief that reality is simply a hologram. The Hindus have a word for this mind created universe – maya, or illusion. What we see, hear and feel is all a creation of our own mind. We each inhabit one of those trillions of alternative universes. The world is literally what you make it.
In my books and articles I discuss a hypothesis that I term Cheating The Ferryman. This concept suggests that this strange world of quantum events has a direct and personal relevance to each one of us because within this counter-intuitive view of the universe lies potential clues to our own immortality. In my books I present evidence to suggest that each one of us carries this world-view within our brain, enfolded like a hologram within its structures. There is overpowering scientific evidence that we forget absolutely nothing. All our experiences, thoughts, sensations are all held, recorded and waiting to be replayed. This is a literal real-life virtual reality holographic experience with you as the star, producer, director and author. So when is this recording screened? The answer is both simple and stunning because I suggest that this happens at the split second before you die.
Many individuals that have a Near Death Experience, or NDE, report a phenomenon termed the ‘past life review. The endogenous chemicals that are known to stimulate this are exactly the same ones that cause a temporal lobe epileptic seizure. Individuals who suffer TLE say that one regular experience is that time slows down, almost becomes non-existent. An additional experience is vivid déjà vu sensations. So what does this all mean?
At the moment before death endorphins and a particular neurotransmitter called glutamate are pumped into the brain causing a profound slowing of internal time perception. At that point the brain triggers this three dimensional, virtual reality life re-run in actual real-time. Put simply the dying person lives their life again minute by minute. However I propose that something even stranger happens at this point. I suggest that consciousness itself splits into two loci of awareness. These I term the Daemon and the Eidolon.
The Daemon remembers exactly who it was in the previous life. In effect this being is a simple continuation of the conscious awareness of the person before the NDE took hold. As this being begins the new life it has, in effect, full precognition of what will take place in this new life – simply because it recalls what happened as a ‘future-memory’.
The Daemon finds its home in the non-dominant hemisphere and from here acts as an ‘all knowing’ passenger. This is because within the dominant hemisphere is a new ‘version’ of the dying person, the Eidolon. This being has no pre-life memories and begins this life as if it is the first time. Occasionally old memories break through as déjà vu. However the Daemon can, under certain neurological circumstances, guide and assist its ignorant partner when it feels it is needed.
Every Daemon-induced change creates a new universe to accommodate the implications of this change.
In the first book, Is There Life After Death, The Extraordinary Science of What Happens When You Die, I describe in detail the mechanism by which this “Cheating the Ferryman” takes place. In my second book, The Daemon-A Guide to Your Extraordinary Secret Self, I focus in more on the evidence for the existence of the Daemon. Indeed, as a writer, I am particularly interested in the role of the Daemon in creativity. In this book I give many examples of authors, poets and even painters who claimed, or claim, that their inspiration comes from something within them that is both part of them and not part of them. Some creative individuals call this source their Muse, others call it their Genius. I prefer the term used by both Socrates and Rudyard Kipling. For them the being was simply their “Daemon”.

Can it really be true that you, the being reading these words, consist of not one, but two, personalities? Only you can decide if the evidence I present is convincing or otherwise. …Of course you could always ask your Daemon!
